Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner File for Divorce Amid Reconciliation Rumors

It took them two years, a superhero franchise and countless trips to the Brentwood farmer’s market, but Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have officially filed for divorce. According to legal documents, Garner petitioned for the divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The couple apparently coordinated their filing sans lawyers. Garner sent her court papers in last week and Affleck responding shortly after. The two are seeking joint legal and physical custody of their three children. They are also asking to keep their individual earnings and assets. The decision to officially divorce comes amid speculation the former Hollywood golden twosome were reconciling, as the two have continued to act very much like a couple (going on vacations together, praising each other in the press and co-parenting their children) since announcing their split in June 2015. While promoting his film “Live by Night,” Affleck called his estranged wife the “world’s greatest mom.” He also talked to Ellen DeGeneres last year about his relationship with Garner. “We’re good friends and we’re doing our best,” he said. “And the kids are fabulous and we’re working on our best for them.” Affleck also recently revealed that he had been in rehab for an addiction to alcohol. “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote in a posting on his Facebook page. “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be.” One imagines Affleck’s problem with alcohol did not help to bring about any reconciliation for the two.

According to sources, they have taken time to iron out the details of division of property and assets, as well as spousal support, since they do not have a prenuptial agreement. The two reportedly remain “super amicable” and have done everything with their children in mind. “They always planned to divorce despite what people said. If you look at their first statement it says divorce, not separate,” a source told People magazine. “They just did it the way they wanted to and did what was best for their kids. There was no catalyst, it was just time. Nothing has changed, they are and still will be putting their kids first.” The divorce could be made final within the year, so until then let’s raise a toast to one of our favorite Hollywood romantic couples, “Bennifer” and their love story. It’s a sad end of an era.

Did Garner’s and Affleck’s Marriage Ever Have A Chance for Reconciliation?

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

No, not likely.

Nine of Swords:
This card represents sadness and depression. I believe this card shows the underlying energy of the marriage due to many circumstances, not just one.

Ace of Swords:
This card represents lack of communication and cutting away what no longer is working in your life. I feel this shows that Garner and Affleck just were not on the same page anymore in their partnership and felt it was best for their children to have two happy divorced parents versus two miserable married parents.

The Tower:
This card represents unexpected happenings in life that pull the rug out from under you and blindsides you. I believe this card shows that neither one of them ever thought their relationship would come to this point of ending and caught them both by surprise when they realized it was over.
