Bill O’Reilly’s Advertisers Leave After Reveal on Sexual Harassment Payouts

The New York Times reported over the weekend that Fox News host, Bill O’Reilly has paid out $13 million dollars to five women who had accused O’Reilly of harassment. O’Reilly, in a statement posted on his website on Saturday, said he had been unfairly targeted because of his prominence. BMW of North America has suspended its advertising on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” in response to a New York Times report that Fox and its star anchor Bill O’Reilly paid five women to settle claims that he sexually harassed them. The German automaker advertiser suspended its commercials on the 21st Century Fox program, joining Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai Motor Corp. His advertiser loss count is now rumored to be now over 50.

The loss of advertisers come after the New York Times reported Fox News has settled over $13 million in sexual and verbal harassment lawsuits against its star anchor, Bill O’Reilly. The harassments vary in nature and allegedly include verbal abuse, lewd comments, unwanted sexual advances and sexual in nature phone calls from O’Reilly. The report claimed O’Reilly’s advances followed a recognizable pattern. O’Reilly would befriend women in the newsroom, promising professional advice and guidance, only to then switch gears and attempt to forge sexual connections with the women. He often made the women fear their careers would be in jeopardy if they didn’t reciprocate his advances. The investigation found a total of five women who had reached settlements with the network and O’Reilly in exchange for not filing suit over his behavior. Of the three new cases, two were sexual harassment claims, and the other cited O’Reilly’s verbal abuse against a young producer in front of Fox News colleagues.

21st Century Fox states it takes matters of workplace behavior very seriously. Notwithstanding the fact that no current or former Fox News employee ever took advantage of the 21st Century Fox hotline to raise a concern about Bill O’Reilly, even anonymously. “We have looked into these matters over the last few months and discussed them with Mr. O’Reilly. While he denies the merits of these claims, Mr. O’Reilly has resolved those he regarded as his personal responsibility. He apparently says he is fully committed to supporting their efforts to improve the environment for all employees at Fox News.

How Will This Effect Bill O’Reilly’s Career?

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

Three of Swords: Inverted (Upside Down)
This card represents a sense of loss, mourning and melancholy. This shows that Bill O’Reilly will go into some serious dark days and regret over the loss of his prestigious standing in the professional TV reporting field. Not only will his career suffer severe setbacks but he will also lose a serious amount of income.

Six of Swords:
This card represents a spiritual awakening or enlightenment or the perfect “ah ha” moment of accountability. Since this card was inverted, it shows this reveal is definitely a life lesson to release the entitlement he feels that comes with his status and fame but also shows since he usually takes a self-righteous approach to his news reporting, he will also take the same approach to being so harshly criticized and punished.

Knight of Swords:
This card represents a fighting, warring and disruptive time. I believe there might be more to be revealed in this situation and his career spiral will not end anytime soon. He may recover but not to the lofty notoriety of before.
