The Boy Scouts Of America Distance Themselves From President Trump After Jamboree Speech

The Boy Scouts of America are creating as much distance from President Donald Trump as they can after his speech at the Jamboree.

Trump gave a campaign-style partisan speech at the National Scout Jamboree on Monday, going after former President Barack Obama, highlighted his victory over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and spoke about his favorite target, the fake news media. President Trump said the following: “The fake media will say…’President Trump spoke before a small crowd of boy scouts today.'” “Did President Obama ever come to a jamboree?” “But do you remember that incredible night with the maps and the Republicans are red and the Democrats are blue… We won and we won.” The Scouts released a statement after the speech saying, “The Boy Scouts of America is wholly non-partisan and does not promote any one position, product, service, political candidate or philosophy.” The President broke with a jamboree tradition that spans 80 years by attacking his critics and rivals. The annual event brings together thousands of scouts from around the world to talk about leadership, serving your country and exchanging ideas. It’s worth noting that former presidents Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were all boy scouts, while President Trump was not.

“Know your audience” is usually the first rule of public speaking. But that doesn’t really seem to matter all that much to President Trump. He became overtly political in yet another setting that some are seeing as crossing the line. Ironically, Trump began his remarks Monday night promising not to talk about politics. “Tonight, we put aside all of the policy fights in Washington, D.C. you’ve been hearing about with the fake news and all of that. We’re going to put that aside. And instead we’re going to talk about success, about how all of you amazing young Scouts can achieve your dreams, what to think of, what I’ve been thinking about. You want to achieve your dreams, I said, who the hell wants to speak about politics when I’m in front of the Boy Scouts? Right?”

Trump’s use of “hell” was not the only utterance that could be seen as inappropriate by parents of the assembled Scouts. The president of the United States, in front of adolescent boys, went on to allude to a sordid story of the way a rich friend, William Levitt of Levittown fame (or infamy), lived his life after making his money. “Sold his company for a tremendous amount of money,” Trump said. “And he went out and bought a big yacht and he had a very interesting life. I won’t go any more than that because you’re Boy Scouts, so I’m not going to tell you what he did. Should I tell you? Should I tell you? You’re Boy Scouts, but you know life. You know life.” Trump seemed to realize that as much as he wanted to tell the story, his “locker room talk” might not be appropriate. For as much as he wanted to mock the media and say the cameras weren’t turned on, he knew they were. He knew every word he said was being recorded and on camera with thousands of witnesses. Some of the boys howled, as boys do and some of their parents definitely didn’t seem too pleased, based on the comments placed on the Boy Scouts of America’s Facebook page.

Apparently Even Boy Scouts Are Not Exempt To Trump’s Continual Character Assassination

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

Well, where do you begin with a story like this? It seems that Trump is now offending someone in every speech he makes which is why he is being asked less and less to make appearances that are normally made available to the highest office of the United States. There is no doubt that he is considered a “smoking gun” and cannot be depended upon to follow appropriate protocol in his speeches.

King of Pentacles:
This is a successful man that is focused on his possessions and how he wants the world to see him. I feel this is a correct card for Trump pertaining to his Boy Scout speech.

Ten of Wands:
This is a burden card. It is becoming more and more apparent to his own party that he follows his own rules, right down to being inappropriate when speaking to young men about morality and ethics.

Princess of Cups:
This is young immature energy, sometimes associated with the inner child. I believe this card came up as it usually represents a “I want what I want when I want it” attitude in an adult. You think?
