Camilla Opens Up About Horrid Aftermath Of Her Affair With Prince Charles

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is finally speaking out about the heightened media scrutiny that surrounded her highly publicized affair with Prince Charles. During an in-depth interview with The Mail On Sunday’s You magazine, the 69-year-old Duchess recalled the consequences surrounding her decades-long private relationship with the Prince of Wales. “It was horrid,” the royal confessed. “It was a deeply unpleasant time and I wouldn’t put my worst enemy through it. I couldn’t have survived it without my family.” One of the reasons the affair was such a scandal, was the fact that both parties were still married. Camilla was married to Andrew Parker-Bowles and Charles to Princess Diana. Diana even confronted Camilla, despite feeling “terrified”, calmly proceeded to confront the other woman in her marriage. “Camilla, I would just like you to know that I know exactly what is going on between you and Charles, I wasn’t born yesterday”. Camilla remained married to Parker-Bowles until 1995 and Charles and Diana married in 1981 and officially divorced in 1993. Camilla added that life seemed to go on as normal for everybody else, while she practically felt like a prisoner in her own home. “For about a year, when we lived in Middlewick, I couldn’t really go anywhere,” she stated. “But the children came and went as normal, they just got on with it and so did great friends.”

The news that Prince Charles and Camilla had restarted their early 1970’s romance angered many to the point where Camilla feared leaving her own home. Following the divorce of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the Palace Public Relations team tried to build Camilla’s profile to become a person with public acceptance. Nevertheless, the Duchess chose to remain positive, crediting her perseverance to having a happy childhood. “I don’t think I’m tough but I do think I’m quite a strong character,” she said. “I would pass the time by reading a lot, more than I’d ever have been able to in a normal life. I thought, well, if I’m stuck here I might as well do something positive like read all the books I want to read and try to learn to paint though that wasn’t a huge success! After a while, life sort of went on.” Despite the media storm surrounding the affair, most notably following the death of Diana, Camilla and Charles were married in 2005 after 35 years of an on and off relationship. The Duchess, who will turn 70 in July, says she barely recognizes herself these days and credits her sense of humor for keeping her in survival mode. “You also have to laugh at yourself because if you can’t, you may as well give up,” Camilla said. “I sometimes think to myself, ‘Who is this woman? It can’t possibly be me.’ And that’s really how you survive.” While Camilla’s relationship with the public and the press has been hard in the past, she is now a favorite on the royal scene and draws large crowds at official engagements. She says there’s intense pressure that comes with royal duties. “Sometimes you get up in the morning and think you can’t do it, and you just have to”, she continues. “I think you live on adrenaline”. “The minute you stop it’s like a balloon, you run out of puff, you sort of collapse in a heap.”

If Ever There Was A Love Story Of “Love Conquers All”, This One Ranks Pretty High Up There!

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

It’s obvious they have always been in love and should have married. The rumor was Charles would not ask Camille to marry her and so she married Parker-Bowles out of spite. Then of course Charles had to produce an heir and there is where Diana came into the picture. Royal rules were very different than they are now, much stricter and more focused on lineage. Thank God for Diana breaking the royal rules and leaving a much more loving legacy for her future heirs.

Ten of Pentacles:
This card is of financial security, status and family support. Since the royal family is all about the money and status, Charles followed the old royal set of rules and did not follow his heart and marry who he wanted to when he finally made up his mind to settle down. A divorced woman cannot be Queen by royal decree.

Ten of Cups: Inverted (Upside Down)
This card is emotional dreams coming true. Well Camilla and Charles finally got what they wanted but definitely not in the manner they thought it would.

Two of Wands: Inverted
This card is looking towards the future with success. There is no doubt Camilla and Charles will remain together but the card being inverted, it shows they paid a dear price for having a future with each other.
