“Cult” Is The New Theme For ‘ American Horror Story ’ Season 7

I have to be honest, the series scares the living hell out of me. It’s not the blood and gore, the possibility there might actually be something out there like that or some of the brutal endings where…..really, the good guy does not ever seem to win! It is the macabre, twisted sense of humor the writers have in making us squirm in our couches waiting for the unexpected ending to be totally not what you expected? Lol! Terrifying but completely addictive. The upcoming season of “American Horror Story” will be titled “Cult.” Producer Ryan Murphy announced the theme of the seventh installment in FX’s anthology series of tweets that kept fans waiting for over an hour. But what does it mean? The “Glee” creator has already shared that the new season would somehow tackle the 2016 presidential election during a visit to “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” in February. “Well, I don’t have a title. But the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through,” he said. “So, I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”

Murphy announced when he would disclose the season’s theme on social media, writing that “suddenly … it will all make sense.” For months, Murphy has been teasing the title of the politically driven season, posting increasingly disturbing images on social media. In May, he kicked things off with a drawing of a nightmarish elephant, possibly a nod to the GOP mascot. Then took the buzz up a notch last week with a photo of a person swarmed with bees. “The themes of ‘American Horror Story’ have always been allegories,” he said. “You will not see [Donald] Trump and [Hillary] Clinton as characters on the show.” Phew! Now that is a scary thought right there!

However, what we will see are series mainstays Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters return to the franchise, as well as newcomers Billy Eichner, Billie Lourd, Alison Pill, Leslie Grossman, Colton Haynes and Lena Dunham. If that wasn’t enough, Twisty the Clown is also officially back to make regular appearances in your nightmares. With every new season of “American Horror Story” comes an equally terrifying title sequence, through which we consistently fast-forward to avoid almost certain nightmares. Amid footage of bloodied hands and bugs crawling out of open wounds, what we do see is someone donning Trump and Clinton masks in the opening credits. “American Horror Story: Cult,” which spans 11 episodes, will premiere Sept. 5.

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

I love the tongue in cheek, scare the pants off you, writing in this series. The series feels like a combination of Freddy Krueger, The Walking Dead and Alfred Hitchcock. Intellectual horror stories, ones that through all the blood, gore, decapitations and creepy clowns, actually make you realize there is an underlying message in all the madness. Cool!

The Magician: Inverted (Upside Down)
Manifesting future events and sometimes the master of illusion. I feel this card pulled inverted is exactly what Murphy tries to accomplish with his insane, macabre and twisted sense of humor.

Temperance:
Balance and harmony. I believe this is what the writers are trying to create with this series is a balance of full on old style “LEAVE THE LIGHTS ON!!!!!” horror genre and a twisted, gruesome, over the top outcome of “Got you!!!”.

Princess of Cups:
Youthful creative energy and also inner child perspective. I feel Murphy is having the time of his life making up these horrible yet mesmerizing story lines. Like a kid in a candy store! Possibly some of his childhood nightmares he is sharing with us? Lol!
