Duck And Cover, Katy Perry Is Hosting The VMA’s As Moonwoman
We still haven’t fully recovered from Miley Cyrus graphic performance hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, so getting triggered by the news of another problematic fave with a blonde crop taking over the duties this year seems normal. That’s right, Katy Perry has been tapped to host this year’s MTV Video Music Award, as well as perform during the ceremony. “I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN ! Brace for impact, kids,” Perry wrote alongside a video promo for the ceremony. The pop superstar is also making a foray into TV with a judge gig on ‘American Idol.’ This comes in advance of the world tour for her most recent, chart-topping album ‘Witness’.
The nominees were announced earlier in the week with Perry scoring five nods for Best Pop, Best Direction and Best Visual Effects for “Chained to the Rhythm,” as well as Best Art Direction for “Bon Appetit” and Best Collaboration with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams and Big Sean for “Feels.” Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s VMA nominees with eight nods, with Perry and The Weeknd tied for second with five nods each. Bruno Mars and DJ Khaled each have four nominations, with Ed Sheeran and Alessia Cara tied with three nominations each. Fan voting in the eight categories are already open.
“We’re thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs,” Bruce Gillmer, Viacom’s head of music and music talent for Global Entertainment Group, said in a statement. “She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year’s show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history.” It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift will most likely be skipping the festivities this year.

I think Perry will do damn good job at hosting the VMA awards. Since she loves to shock (i.e. Miley Cyrus), you can just about expect anything from her. She is a visual treat whenever she takes the stage and I see this being no different. In fact, she will try to make it a night to remember of over the top visuals and performance.

This is disappointment and letting go of the past. I feel it has been a rough and disappointing year for Perry in many ways in spite of her album success. She now feels she is starting to get her game back and hosting this award show is just what she needs for that moral boost.

This is a woman who is loving, sensitive, generous and her heart rules her life. I feel this card is a good representation of who Perry is and as most music superstars, have a completely different stage persona to what is reality.
