Five of Cups Tarot and Letting Go of Disappointment

The Five of Cups is definitely a life learning card. It points out to you that no matter how hard a challenge you have been through or still going through, stay focused on the light at the end of the tunnel. Inspiring you to put your big girl or big boy pants on, roll up your sleeves and do everything in your power to create a positive outcome to the issue. Not only does the negative blame game make you miserable but everyone around you feeling uncomfortable seeing you as a victim. What makes you feel better about yourself; an outlook that you will find the strength and courage to move through it and end up in better position or a poor, poor pitiful me, nothing ever works out for me?

Forgiveness is the vital message that comes with the Five of Cups, both for yourself and others. If someone has disappointed you, find compassion within your heart to forgive that person, releasing yourself from the disappointment. Intentional towards you or not, it’s like holding onto the nasty green pieces after someone has thrown up on you and then re-examining them trying to figure out why they did that to you. Bitterness towards a situation or person is also like you drinking poison and expecting them to suffer and die. You are the only one who is miserable.

The reversed Five of Cups always picks up that you have recently suffered a personal setback or disappointment. Possibly feeling like a failure and unwilling to share those feelings with others. In reverse position, this card encourages you to open up and share your emotions in the process of release and healing. You will find that by sharing your feelings with others, you’ll realize that you WILL overcome this temporary setback. Just an FYI, this does not mean talking it to death with everyone and strangers on the street!

Career: If you are looking for work and the Five of Cups comes up, it is asking you to be patient with any possible delays in applications, resumes, and paperwork in general. This card is requesting you to be pro-active about going after what you want. It can also bring up the question if it is time for you to re-evaluate the job you are in. Is it right for you or is there something that fits you better?

Love and Romance: The Five of Cups usually is an indication that a love relationship you are in may be coming to closure. Sometimes the Universe will step in and protect you from yourself, not allowing a toxic relationship to blossom. Give yourself time and space before you move into another prospective relationship. You will know when it is time to get back out there, possibly being fully aware and thankful that the “last one” did not work out. Out higher self really does have our best interests at heart.

Money: The Five of Cups is a card that shows there is too much worrying about money not being available. This type of energy brings about the opposite effect of getting more prosperous. Generosity of your time and your own prosperity for those who have less, will show the Universe that you are in gratitude. This will always reverse the energy of lack to one of abundance.

Health: This card is a strong message that it is crucial that you let go of the past hurts. If you just “can’t get over” what someone “did to you” or what happened in your past, now is the time to get help in resolving these issues, as the negative energy that you hold within your body will eventually bring about serious damage and/or pain to your body with time. The past is gone. Focus on the present, and a brighter and happier future.

Spirituality: The Five of Cups where your spiritual energy is being addressed is all about the forgiveness. You don’t forgive others for THEIR sake, or because that’s what “good” people do, you do it for your own sake. A great peace will fill you when you finally let go of bitterness and unforgiveness.
