How To Protect Yourself As A Physical Empath

There are many types of empaths, some are straight emotional, some lightly in tune to others deeper feelings, some who have the ability to just be in the same vicinity of people and can pick up everything that is going on. The deepest and the most uncomfortable empathic ability is to be a physical empath. In reality, it is hard to separate empathic gifts into categories as they all are connected but this particular empath gift is tough on the person who carries it if they don’t know they have the gift nor how to protect themselves from making their life feel like a walking sponge for everyone else’s stuff.

What is a Physical Empath? Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines the word empathy as “the imaginative projection of a subjective state into an object so that the object appears to be infused with it.” It is someone who feels the emotions and pain of others and if not aware, can pick up others illnesses, body aches and psychological imbalances, not realizing they are not theirs. Many Physical Empaths have been labeled “agoraphobic” with panic disorders, chronic depression, fatigue, pain, or mysterious ailments that respond only partially to medications or psychotherapy. The most severe cases have been nearly housebound or ill for years. They’d all say, “I dread being in crowds. Other people’s anger, stress, and pain drain me, and I need a lot of alone time to refuel my energy.”

Being an empath is a divine gift but if you don’t know how to balance and ground yourself, it can become a nightmare. Here are some of the symptoms of a physical empath, neither good nor bad but the most important knowledge to carry with you is that you do not have to become a slave to the physical and psychological illnesses that are not your own and learn what is yours and what belongs to others.

  1. Have you been labeled as overly sensitive or a hypochondriac?
  2. Have you ever sat next to someone who seemed nice but suddenly your eyelids got heavy and you felt like taking a nap? That is what called an energy vampire.
  3. Do you feel uneasy, tired, or sick in crowds after a short period of time?
  4. Do you pick up on someone else’s anxiety or physical pain in their body?
  5. Do angry or hostile people exhaust you?
  6. Do you run from doctor to doctor for medical tests, only to be told that “You’re fine.”
  7. Feel chronically tired or have many symptoms you just can’t put your finger on?
  8. Do you frequently feel overwhelmed by the world in general and just want to stay under the bed covers?
  9. You have the ability to pick up on negative energy from people immediately. Run the other way or reinforce your protection.
  10. The stomach is considered the second brain and it can pick up on the invisible information all around you that perhaps your eyes cannot see but your nervous system can sense. There’s a reason they tell you to trust your gut feeling, listen to it.
  11. You immediately know when someone is “faking” their emotions or physical symptoms.

Here are some tools that will help keep you from feeling the effect of other people’s physical, emotional and psychological symptoms. They are not perfect, but if diligent and always aware, the physical effects will lessen.

  1. Always ask the angels, guides, Holy Spirit or whomever you pray to surround you with a pink bubble of protective light around you at all times, even at home.
  2. Try and keep the time limited that you spend with people who are always complaining about some physical malady they are dealing with. If you have to, go to rule #1, reinforce it and then exit if you start feeling any symptoms.
  3. Use Native American white sage sticks to purify yourself several times a week, don’t forget the bottoms of your feet and of course where you sleep as in dreamtime, you are vulnerable. Carry protective gemstones in your pocket.
  4. Listen to positive affirmations tracks and upbeat music. Learn release meditation. Judith Orloff writes amazing books on empaths, read her advice.
  5. DO NOT try and drown out the symptoms with alcohol or drugs. It will only make it worse.
  6. Find a spiritual group or a healer that will help teach you powerful protection modalities that cannot be breached. The trick is you have to continually stay on top of those protective energic grids. If not, you go right back to feeling vulnerable again.
  7. Journal your feelings. You have the ability to transfer any negative energies to paper. Once written, burn it outside of your house.
  8. Drink tons of water to release the negative energy…. not soda or coffee. (green tea is good)

Susan Z’s Verdict

Being an empath, I can testify that these will help. Perfect, no, but if done on a consistent basis, the sick feeling will dissipate and you will feel lighter and healthier.

  4. I’m not sure if I’m an empath or not I know this past weekend I was having pms symptoms such as cramps and aching lower back which is impossible due to that I had a hysterectomy upon mentioning this the girl I was with stated she was having those symptoms also if I do a Reflexology treatment if the person is feeling irritable or very tired I find by the end of the treatment I am experiencing those same feeling yet I can start the treatment feeling calm and relaxed so are those indicators that I may possibly be an empath
