Inner Contemplation With The Four Of Cups Tarot

Whenever I see the Four of Cups in a reading, I know there is a lot going on how to resolve a situation or make much needed changes in their life with no forward movement being made. You want the energy to change and start something but you just don’t want to get out of that warm bed in the morning, pulling up the covers and smacking the snooze button on your life changing alarm clock. Problem being, it is just a snooze button and inevitably will go off again.

When the Four of Cups show up, the Universe is showing you that new invitations and opportunities are being sent your way and you’re saying “no” and turning them away. You instinctively know that you need to be standing on emotional firm ground before you can decide your next steps. It can also appear when you are bored or dissatisfied with your everyday life. You may feel disengaged, apathetic or unmotivated; feeling that life has become dull. The Four of Cups invites you to bring your attention inward and re-evaluate your situation to find a deeper meaning in how you are living your life. You may have found yourself disconnected from your emotional self and inner truth, needing to re-establish this connection and once again finding your greater sense of purpose and direction.

The Four of Cups reversed, reflects a period of introspection and withdrawal. You are retreating into your own inner world of either avoidance or trying to find the ground on what works and what doesn’t in your present everyday life. You may also use this time of introspection, checking in with your inner self to make sure your upcoming projects are still a good fit for you.

Reversed, the Four of Cups suggests that you feel uninspired, disillusioned, or disappointed with the world around you. It seems as though you struggle with everything and instead of dealing with it head on, you choose retreat. You may avoid the challenges for awhile but like sticking you head in the sand, eventually you will be force to breathe and attend to them.

In general, the Four of Cups is about wishful thinking and daydreaming. It reminds us to remember to pay attention to what “is” happening in the present that needs to be addressed and the many blessings you are currently experiencing, instead of projecting “what could be.” So, don’t forget to count your blessings while you are trying to figure out how to come out of the stagnation. Change will happen, it has to, as it is what life is about,” experiencing.”

Career, Love, Money, Health, Spirituality

Career: Your job may be one of the things you do not like very much at the moment but being impulsive about walking away is a thing of the past and no longer works in today’s job security. NO job is 100% secure, as many have found out as they receive their pink slip of dismissal or try to replace the job they walked out on.

Love and Romance: The Four of Cups asks you if you are being realistic with regards to love? Do you find yourself wanting what you can’t have to the exclusion of everyone else, missing an opportunity to find real love? Or staying with someone who isn’t giving you very much back? There is no room for real love in those situations.

Money: This card is reminding you to find your financial strengths, what you have and can do, not what you can’t do and don’t have. If you’re not where you want to be financially, set goals and then chart the steps that will get you there. Get real about what you spend your money on and how it effects your stability and security.

Health: If you are having physical problems, the Four of Cups indicates that things will change. Do whatever is necessary to address your health issue and start paying more attention to how you eat, exercise and making time to get enough rest. Reach out for the help you need to feel better.

Spirituality: That manipulative tool of the ego called “Wishful Thinking” can strip you of the spiritual foundations needed to have faith in yourself and your partnership with the Universe to acquire the life you want to live. It is easier that one thinks to get caught up in “poor me” thinking or “I wish things were different,” regardless of how deeply spiritual you are. When we move into negative thinking, it tends to blind us to the beauty of what IS in our lives, right now.

Susan Z’s Verdict

We are all challenged at some point in our life and we all go through the Soul Window (spiritual life cycles) at certain ages that bring about major changes, usually not easily gotten there. The test, as always is if you choose to look at the challenge as a punishment, bad luck or not worthy or roll up your sleeves and pray for the courage to get through it and find the solution. Shit happens! Don’t take it personally!
