Jude Law to Play Young Dumbledore In Fantastic Beasts Sequel

Jude Law, star of the hit HBO series “The Young Pope” is slated to star as the iconic Harry Potter headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. According to Toby Emmerich, President and CCO of Warner Bros. Pictures, the 44-year-old actor will play a young Dumbledore long before the wizard became the headmaster at Hogwarts and Harry Potter’s mentor, reported Variety. “His storyline will follow Dumbledore while he is still serving as the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor. He is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald, the charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs,” the release states. Fantastic Beasts director David Yates believes Law’s performance “will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.” “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him,” Yates said.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who wrote the screenplay for the first “Fantastic Beasts,” has also written the screenplay for the second installment so Dumbledore’s past and unknown history is sure to be true to the Potter storyline. The studio had been considering every major British actor in showbiz, from Christian Bale to Benedict Cumberbatch to Mark Strong to Harris’ son, “The Crown” actor Jared Harris. The sequel will also star Eddie Redmayne and Johnny Depp as Grindelwald, and is expected to hit theaters on Nov. 16, 2018. It will be the second of five planned “Fantastic Beasts” movies. Albus Dumbledore is one of the most iconic characters in J K Rowling’s wizarding world, so these are some footprints Jude Law will have to follow for the wizarding fans. Richard Harris made the role popular in the first two “Harry Potter” movies, while Michael Gambon later took over the part after Harris’ death in 2002. The sequel will hit the US theatres on November 16 of 2018.

Will Playing Young Dumbledore Change the Direction of Jude Law’s Career?

Susan Z’s Conclusion:

The Emperor:
This card represents a strong personality with control issues and big ego. Jude Law is an actor right…so it usually comes with the movie star territory. I believe this card shows he will definitely bring to the character a different energy than people are expecting.

Two of Swords: Inverted (Upside Down)
This card represents stalemate, a hard decision to make and temporarily blind to the answers. I feel this card may show the long commitment and possible type casting with the on-going character of Dumbledore and Law having to choose his other acting parts carefully to prevent this.

Five of Pentacles: Inverted
This card represents going within, sometimes self-esteem issues and can also indicate health issues. I feel since this card was inverted, it shows Law actually enjoying the part and possibly he is an actor that pushes himself to exhaustion. This could be one of the reasons he accepted an on-going role versus one movie part after another.
