I recently stumbled across an ancient proverb, “The sun sees your body. The moon sees your soul.” How true this is. The moon seems to peer into the dark shadows of our hidden selves and yet, for many of us, the moon is quite comforting. It is certainly a strong source of magic and inspiration such as on days like today, which is the new moon.

The prevailing energy of the new moon is that of starting fresh. This is the perfect time to start a new project as well as to set your for new projects and goals for the future.

The new moon is an excellent time for manifesting and there is an old witch’s tale that if you want your hair to grow, then trim it during a new moon. Some people will use the power of the new moon to create a vision board or those with an entrepreneurial spirit and who are highly in tune with their magical selves will use the new moon to create a business plan.

Tarot Card Draw #1: Six of Swords, reversed

The Six of Swords frequently turns up in readings about travel and occasionally when you may be considering relocating to a new geographical location. Our card shows us a traveler traversing the waters to a new land seemingly at a distance. Unfortunately, when reversed as it is today, this often indicates trouble or, at the very least, delays to be expected. If this card comes up for you in a daily draw or general reading, it frequently means you may find yourself going from one bad situation to possibly an even worse situation. It denotes a lack of progress, feeling overwhelmed, stuck and an extended healing process. When speaking specifically about a person, this card may come up warning of a troublemaker or someone who simply enjoys rocking the boat and creating negative situations for others simply for their own enjoyment. When negotiating a new job or the purchase of a home/car, this card will turn up reversed urging you to stand your ground and know your worth but to also thoroughly read the fine print as the one with whom you are in talks with may slip something in without your knowledge that could potentially work against you in a big way. When looking at a relationship of any kind (romantic, friendly or familial), this reversed card indicates a storm may be brewing. If not dealt with quickly and effectively, this negative relationship situation will most likely seep into other areas of your life such as causing you to act rather impulsively or negatively in your work or business. If you have already found yourself in the midst of a negative relationship situation, this card will come up indicating that healing may take longer than you would like. More literal meanings of this reversed card of travel warn that you have a backup plan when planning any kind of trip. Expect delays, a myriad of disruptions and plans simply being cancelled all together.

Tarot Card Draw #2: The Devil

If The Devil turns up in a tarot spread or daily draw for you, do not allow yourself to automatically go to a dark or hopeless place. While he can signify some negative behaviors and some things that may not be in your best interest, he also has a good side which we will address first. Sometimes The Devil may turn up for you to bring your attention to your own state of depression or possibly a self-destructive addiction. He may also be speaking of a feeling of being trapped, restricted or out of control in any or all areas of your life. Because the Devil is well-known to be a trickster and quite deceptive in many different religions, you may automatically blame any of the above situations on him and think he is doing these things to you in an effort to control you. But in Tarot, The Devil card is quite different from the Devil himself. When dealing with depression, addition or any of the above overly negative situations, you may feel as though outside influences or forces beyond your control are restricting you, leaving you feeling powerless and victimized. However, this is actually an illusion being created by The Devil. You are in complete and total control of your own destiny and are not bound by anything other than your own attitudes, thoughts and behaviors. When dealing with any of the above negative behaviors or situations, The Devil may turn up to tell you not to give and do not give away your power. You have it well within yourself to make the needed changes to help raise yourself up out of depression, addiction and any other negative and self-destructive situation that you feel may be controlling your and your life. If you find yourself in any other overly negative or abusive situation, or if someone is being overly critical of you or trying to manipulate you in any way, The Devil may turn up for you to tell you that you simply do not have to tolerate it. There are options to help you get out and away from these situations and these people. The way out may not be easy, but it is certainly possible. There is always something positive you can do to improve your situation no matter how hopeless things may seem on the surface. The Devil may also turn up to bring your attention to how you may be treating others. You may be trying to manipulate or control people knowingly or unknowingly. This must stop. When The Devil turns up for you in a daily draw, it could be indicating obsessive, secretive or impulsive behavior. It can be a sign that you are out of control. The Devil may also turn up to bring your attention to the fact that you have allowed yourself to become quite materialistic or obsessed with control and/or power over others. While material possessions and a certain degree of control or power over others may make you feel good for a little while, it will all ultimately turn back on you in that those around you will leave you thus ultimately leaving you alone and isolated with no one in your corner, no one to turn to. The Devil may be trying to tell you it is time to step back and get your priorities in order.

Tarot Card Draw #3: Strength

It need not be stated that the absolute most basic meaning of the Strength card is quite simply *strength* — your own inner strength. But sometimes when we get so caught up in the negative and dark side of life, we just need a little reminder of what lay within us … the strength to simply soldier on to overcome any adverse situation we may be facing. Strength serves as a strong indicator and reminder that you have all the tools and skills within you to overcome whatever dark or negative situation you may be facing. Look within to find the way out. If in a bad romantic relationship, Strength may come up to help you get your emotions in check and under control as this is a rather emotional card. Getting your emotions in order will help you find the calm you need to be more rational and make better choices in order to overcome the challenges you may be, or soon will be, facing. In contrast to external negative forces and challenging situations, Strength is also here to bring your attention to some inner struggles that you may be either denying or of which you are simply not fully aware. These inner struggles could include doubt, fear, anxiety, questioning your own worth and ability. If you have been working to overcome these inner issues, Strength may fall for you in a daily reading simply as a reminder that you do have all that you need within to get through and overcome and hopefully be made better for the experience. It may also come up to encourage you to be brave, take some chances and step outside your comfort zone. Have faith in yourself, your skills and your ability to overcome any adverse situation and know your worth be it in personal connections (friendly, familial, romantic) as well in professionally. In addition to the need to tame your own emotions, Strength may turn up to bring your attention to someone near you who is in need of a little boost or some guidance to get their own emotions in order to deal with some of their own inner demons and struggles. If you choose to try and assist this person, do so with compassion and understanding along with gentle guidance but avoid giving advice of any kind. In a small way, Strength may be trying to encourage you to try and see things from someone else’s perspective in order to gain a better understanding of why they may be acting in a certain way or saying specific things or holding firm to a particular belief or stance.
