Numerology Applied To Tarot, Part II: Theme Cards

Continuing on with the series of numerology applied to Tarot, we are going to explore the amazing world of Theme Cards and how they can add great depth into a reading. In order to explain and understand this, we are going to be working with a sample reading.

Joe is having issues in his marriage. His wife, Jane, seems to be unhappy with any decision that he makes and he is really frustrated because there’s no way to make a hit! No matter what he tries, his attempts are never well received. He has decided to get a reading on the subject and this is what he got.

His wife: Three of Swords

Him: The Star (XVII)

The Relationship: The Moon (XVIII)

What the reading is telling us is that Jane feels disappointed on an emotional level. Her expectations have been crushed and even if it wasn’t Joe’s intention, she has been deeply hurt because he has not met said expectations. Right now she’s hurt and defensive, and she may be even considering that she has fallen out of love with him.

In the meanwhile, Joe is still hopeful about the relationship, but as The Star often indicates, he is hoping for a magical solution and he believes that at some point things will redirect themselves and get better. He thinks that all will be good but he’s not putting a direct effort on making things better.

When it comes to the relationship, The Moon suggests that nothing is still set and that the future of the relationship is uncertain, he needs to explore the situation and bring light into the areas of the relationship that have been neglected in order to find out what can be done and redirect the relationship towards a better future or an ending.

Looking at this, it looks like the reading is not very clear, right? It is the perfect moment to look for the Theme Card!

Calculating the Theme Card is easy! All you have to do is the sum of all of the numbers in the reading to reduce them to a Major Arcana that will tell what is the major issue behind this situation.

In this case we have 3+17+18 = 38 3+8 = 11 Justice.

What Justice tells us is that the relationship has come very practical and the emotional side has been neglected. As well, it speaks about issues from the past that are unresolved, rancour and subjects that have been avoided for a long time and are now taking a toll on their relationship. As well, being a card related to the element of Air, Justice says that communication is the biggest handicap in the relationship and what needs to be addressed foremost in order to have the opportunity to save the relationship. It also suggests to Joe and Jane that it is time to be fair and think about his own wrongs and what he has done, rather that being focused on what has been done to them in order to own their part and reach a point were the truth arises and they can start a path of healing and forgiveness.
