Once he was known everywhere for his role as Stifler on American pie, and most would agree that he played a fantast role. But a series of flop movies seemed to see him fall off the Hollywood radar. This is a pity because the guy seemed to be able to emerge himself in the character on the pie, so surely he would have no problem doing this again in another role. I suppose for all actors, you can play some roles and not play others. Personally, I don’t feel he should take the hit for roles that were not meant for him. But that’s just me.
This is the danger of becoming typecast. Many actors play a blinding performance in a movie as their first appearance into the limelight, then rather than celebrate this, we the public label them with that name forever. Maybe it’s better to be terrible starting off and work your way to perfection. But seriously ladies and gents, we need to change the way we label people and give people a break. If they deliver a good performance on the onset they should be rewarded for it. On some occasions, it could be a weak story line leaning on their strength to carry it, and a job is a job at the end of the day. Who can afford to turn down work? Here’s hoping he gets the break he needs.
