Three of Swords Overcoming Hurt and Disappointment
I have to admit that I am a coward when it comes to avoiding the cards that point out things are not going as well as we would like. The Three of Swords is a card like that, which basically means that you are in deep shit and it’s time to pull yourself out of it. Whether it be financial, romantic, career or just life in general, things just aren’t going well. Life is life and sometimes it just does not go your way. The Three of Swords is one of those; this is not a garden party card. This card comes as a reminder that pain, sorrow and grief are a necessary part of life’s growth.
The Three of Swords is an indication that you have been deeply hurt by something or someone. It also represents getting stuck in a melancholy mood that life sucks. This card shows up in a reading when your heart feels broken because of betrayal, hurtful words or actions by people that are close. The emotions of sadness, grief and heartbreak usually come about by being blindsided. Not seeing it coming and usually inflicted by someone you love, trust or depend on. It can also represent dealing with a death of a loved one.
The Three of Swords is also about emotional release if you are holding onto pain, hurt and unforgiveness. When you have been deeply disappointed by someone or a situation, have a good cry, mope a little, spend some money on yourself and then start working on letting the hurt go. Carrying around that deep heart hurt and disappointment is only detrimental to you. If you can’t figure out how to do it on your own, seek out a healing therapist to do energy release work or a counselor to talk it out. And I don’t mean friends or family members. They will have a meter running as to how much they want to hear about it over and over again.
In reverse position, the Three of Swords encourages you to move forward by paying attention to your negative thoughts and self-talk. Your words and thoughts are so powerful that we do not realize how much damage we can do to ourselves, our life and those around us if we do not address the pain and hurt you are holding onto. And NEVER blame yourself. If you messed up, you messed up! Forgive yourself, say your apologies and once again, move on.

In general, the Three of Swords is showing you the agony you are experiencing but also points out the reality that life carries pain as well as joy. Denying the pain and holding onto it will not only cause damage to your health, your outlook on life and your relationships.
Career, Love, Money, Health, Spirituality
Career: Usually your ego is involved where work is the factor. You didn’t get the promotion you thought you had for sure or worse, you got fired. Keep your perspective and remember that when one door closes, another one always will open for you.
Love: This card does not always have to represent the ending of a relationship but it does point out there are difficulties to be dealt with if it is to survive. It usually comes up as a betrayal of an affair or finding out that someone does not love you the way you thought they did. Know that you will be guided to the relationship that is right for you and it will not come from trying to force the one you are in to work no matter what.
Money: I hate to be the one bearing the bad news when this card shows up, but when it does, it usually means there is going to be a drop in your finances. However, that transpires, take a deep breath and rethink your money situation. There is always a solution. Don’t let your pride get in your way if you have to ask for temporary help.
Health: The Three of Swords concerning news about your health is you were hoping it was going to be better. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything serious but it is a heads up if you are dealing with too much stress, anxiety or depression. Do what you can to change to living a healthier lifestyle.
Spirituality: When this card shows up in your spiritual area, it is giving you direction to not depend on old beliefs or people from the past that may have helped you through hard times. This is an emotional biggy and you may want to explore other means of support than the ones you have depended before.
Susan Z’s Verdict
The Three of Swords is very powerful in showing you that the Universe knows you are going through hell at the moment but it is also a card of encouragement. All things pass and whatever pain you are dealing with will become a memory, as with all things in life.
