Tarot Card Draw #1: Five of Cups

The Five of Cups is an overly emotional card which quite often speaks of the negative emotions we experience such as grief, loss, depression, oppression, emotional pain, sadness, loneliness and despair. These negative emotions are quite often precipitated by an unwelcome or unexpected change or trauma in your life such as job loss, divorce, miscarriage, your significant other ending your shared romantic connection or the death of a loved one be it expected or unexpected. The Five of Cups may turn up in your daily draw if you have been feeling regret, remorse, anger sorrow or disappointment. Maybe you have recently wronged someone in some way and are now feeling badly for it. Possibly you feel abandoned or betrayed by someone close to you or by someone whom you trusted a great deal and never expected to turn on you. While your heart may be breaking or you may be simply feeling quite overwhelmed by the pain and darkness, this card also speaks of something that I quite frequently write about: there is always something positive to be found in every situation, no matter how bad or negative it may be. This is made evident by the lone upright cup among the four overturned cups. If we look hard enough, we can find the positive and hopefully use it to find healing or to be advantageous to us in some other way.

Tarot Card Draw #2: The Hermit, reversed

The Hermit falling upright for you frequently indicates the need for time alone to regroup or get some things straight in your mind and/or heart. However, when this card falls in the reversed position in a daily tarot draw, it may be trying to tell you that you are spending too much time alone or in isolation. You need to get back out there are start living your life, slowly beginning to socialize and reintegrate yourself. Too much time alone can be rather damaging to your emotional and/or mental state. Also, while time in self-reflection and taking time to do a reassessment of your life is often a good thing, there must be limitations as too much time in self-reflection could be potentially damaging as well. You may find yourself looking a bit too deeply and are seeing things from a darker perspective causing you to develop a negative outlook. Also, too much time in self-reflection can cloud your judgement and just confuse things as you may fall into the trap of “what if” or come to have regrets about a past decision that was actually in your best interest at the time. The Hermit, reversed, could also turn up for you in reference to a social situation in which you are feeling rather shy or reluctant to participate in but need to just take a chance and open yourself up. This card is encouraging you to be more social, get out there and open yourself up to new people and situations. In reversed position, The Hanged Man may also speak of you being afraid of looking at yourself more objectively out of fear of what you may see or learn about yourself. Lastly, when in reverse, The Hanged Man could be suggesting that you have allowed yourself to become a bit obsessed with someone or something to your own detriment. Also, you may be given to overly restrictive thoughts or a very narrow way of thinking and looking at things. Lighten up.

Tarot Card Draw #3: Death, reversed

The Death card is not to be taken lightly, even in the reversed position. But know that when coming up in a tarot spread, it rarely indicates the actual death of someone. At times, it does, but this card also reminds us that the only true guarantee in life is death. This is made evident by Death looming so large over the three figures before him, one of whom is offering a gift of a flower to Death while the other two look to be pleading with Death. There are times when death is a welcomed release for those who have been suffering. But in a tarot spread, death usually is an indicator of some new and positive things to come. Death quite literally means a falling away of the old and the bringing in of the new. If looking to make any positive changes in your life, the reversed Death card says that the time is not quite right for that to happen. Do not let this reversed card discourage you, just know that something much better awaits you and will come your way soon. This applies to all areas of your life from personal connections to home to work, etc. The two figures pleading with Death know that he can bring goodness into their lives and they are hoping for the best. The figure presenting Death with a gift is grateful for the stripping away of the negative situation which has been replaced with positive.
