It has sweeping views, swimming pool, library and fitness room. Built in 1913, famed director Cecil B. DeMille resided in the stunning Los Feliz home until his death in 1959. The ‘Maleficent’ star filed for divorce from her husband Brad Pitt, in September after over a decade together, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The home considered one of the best in L.A. The most anyone paid for a home in the area is Lydia Hearst, who plunked down $13M, so Angelina’s purchase is nearly double. The historic property, in a market where multimillion-dollar mansions tend to go through several price cuts went into contract in less than three weeks. It is rumored the purchase was made to meet with the divorce stipulations of having the children accessible to Pitt who resides mostly in the L.A. area.<\/p>\n
DeMille, famous for Hollywood Golden Age classics like \u201cThe Ten Commandments\u201d and \u201cSamson and Delilah,\u201d bought the home in 1916 from a local businessman, according to a 2010 book on historic Los Angeles homes. The pistol-packing, bombastic director lived in the secluded home until his death. The sellers, Grossman and Lyons, tried to sell the home for more than $26 million in 2008, on the brink of the U.S. housing market collapse, and eventually pulled the property off the market according to listing records. They also undertook a six-year renovation, keeping many original details while adding modern amenities. Architects raised the ceilings where possible and expanded the kitchen and library, eliminating the former servants\u2019 quarters.<\/p>\n
