The actress, who auditioned for the racy HBO series when she was 12 and cast as the eldest daughter of Ned Stark on the hit series, learned about a common sex act for the first time while at work. The show has previously come under fire for its depiction of sexual violence toward women and one of the most disturbing storylines involved Turner\u2019s character being raped by her character\u2019s husband, Ramsay Bolton. Sophie also said in an interview with The Times about how sexual assault is depicted on the series. Her character Sansa Stark is raped in season five.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cSexual assault wasn\u2019t something that had affected me or anybody I knew, so I was pretty blas\u00e9 about the whole thing,\u201d she said. \u201cNaively so. And then I shot the scene and in the aftermath, there was this huge uproar that we would depict something like that on television.\u201d \u201cMy first response was like, maybe we shouldn\u2019t have put that on screen at all,\u201d Now she thinks it was a good thing to have it on the show. \u201cThe more we talk about sexual assault the better, and screw the people who are saying we shouldn\u2019t be putting this on TV and screw the people who are saying they\u2019re going to boycott the show because of it.\u201d Very adult perspective for an issue that has long been hid in the closet.
