John Heard starred in some of the most beloved movies of the \u201980s and \u201990s and best known for his role as the father to the oft-forgotten Kevin McCallister in the original \u201cHome Alone\u201d movies has died. He was 72. Heard\u2019s body was found in a Palo Alto, California hotel room where he was recovering from a recent surgery. \u201cI can confirm that our officers responded with the Fire Department to a hotel in our city yesterday on a report of a person in need of medical aid,\u201d a police spokesperson told People. \u201cThe person was determined to be John Hears and deceased. While still under investigation, the death is not considered suspicious at this time.\u201d Days earlier, Heard reportedly underwent \u201cminor back surgery\u201d at Stanford Medical Center. The cause of death has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n
Heard first began acting in 1975 and his role was in a TV movie called “Valley Forge.” He went on to land roles in countless other films and TV shows. The veteran actor\u2019s extensive career includes celebrated roles in the first two \u201cHome Alone\u201d films, he played Tom Hanks co-worker in \u201cBig\u201d and co-starred with Bette Midler in \u201cBeaches.\u201d Heard also appeared in films like \u201cGladiator,\u201d \u201cWhite Chicks\u201d and \u201cThe Great Debaters.\u201d He made guest appearances in a variety of TV roles, ranging from \u201cMiami Vice\u201d, \u201cBattlestar Galactica\u201d to \u201cPrison Break\u201d and \u201cThe Sopranos,\u201d which earned him an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor. The Washington, D.C., native revealed in 2008 that he thought he could have done more with his career. \u201cI sort of got sidetracked. But that’s OK, that’s all right, that’s the way it is …\u201d he said in a 411Mania interview. \u201cI don’t have any regrets. Except that I could have played some bigger parts.\u201d In 2016, Heard told the Baltimore Media Blog that his favorite role was in \u201cSharknado.\u201d \u201cI thought it would replace people calling me the \u2018Home Alone Dad,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Heard was married and divorced three times, including to \u201cSuperman\u201d actress Margot Kidder for just six days in 1979. He is survived by three children, Max, Annika and John. His son Max reportedly died in December. Most recently, he just wrapped on projects “Imprisoned,” “The Tale,” “Last Rampage” and “Living Among Us.” The actor was reportedly still filming a starring role in the movie “Broome Street Boys.”<\/p>\n
