After months of radio silence from both Pitt\u2019s and Jolie\u2019s camps, the actress is opening up in a new interview with Vanity Fair about how she\u2019s \u201chealing\u201d following their highly publicized and highly messy split. \u201cWe care for each other and care about our family,\u201d Jolie said of her current relationship with Pitt. \u201cWe are both working towards the same goal.\u201d\n \t\t<\/p>\n
Hollywood\u2019s former golden couple imploded last September amid allegations of child and substance abuse with Pitt at the center. The actor was later cleared of all charges but Jolie still retains full custody of their children and relations between the two have sweetened since deciding to settle their differences out of court. Now, Jolie has moved into a new house, a $25 million mansion in Los Angeles, where she lives with her six children \u2015 Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 9. \u201cIt\u2019s just been the hardest time and we\u2019re just kind of coming up for air,\u201d she said. \u201d This house is a big jump forward for us and we\u2019re all trying to do our best to heal our family.\u201d Jolie didn\u2019t go as far as to reveal why she chose to end her marriage with Pitt, but she did shed light on when the relationship started to sour. Things between the former couple got \u201cbad\u201d in the summer of 2016, she says, when her upcoming film \u201cFirst They Killed My Father\u201d was still in post-production. \u201cI don\u2019t want to use that word,\u201d Jolie quickly clarified. \u201cThings became \u2019difficult.\u201d \t\t<\/p>\n
\nHowever, the actress did shut down any speculation that the family\u2019s lavish jet-setting lifestyle somehow contributed to the couple\u2019s unhappiness. \u2033Our lifestyle was not in any way a negative,\u201d she explained. \u201cThat was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children. They\u2019re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I\u2019m very proud of them.\u201d
\nDescribing her children as \u201cvery brave\u201d throughout the ordeal, Jolie places a special emphasis on shielding them from any more pain, something she struggled with as a child. \u201cI was very worried about my mother, growing up \u2014 a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me,\u201d said Jolie. \u201cI think it\u2019s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything\u2019s going to be all right even when you\u2019re not sure it is.\u201d Around the same time as their split, Jolie reveals she developed hypertension and Bell\u2019s palsy which causes a drooping in the face, due to damaged facial nerves. Thanks to acupuncture therapy, she made a full recovery. \u201cSometimes women in families put themselves last,\u201d Jolie said, \u201cuntil it manifests itself in their own health.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re all just healing from the events that led to the filing. They\u2019re not healing from divorce,\u201d she continued. \u201cThey\u2019re healing from some . . . from life, from things in life.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
