Heather was walking along or across a street when a Dodge Challenger slammed into pedestrians. Heyer was killed, and 19 others were injured. \u201cI have not [spoken to Trump], and now I will not,\u201d Bro said on ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America\u201d. Bro said the White House tried to reach out to her multiple times the day of her daughter\u2019s funeral and she simply missed the calls. But after seeing a video of Trump\u2019s Tuesday press conference where he defended the white supremacists and put as much of the blame of the violence and her daughter\u2019s death to the counter-protesters, Bro said she doesn\u2019t wish to speak to him. \u201cI hadn\u2019t really watched the news until last night, and I\u2019m not talking to the president now,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. After what he said about my child, and, it\u2019s not that I saw somebody else\u2019s tweets about him, I saw an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters like Ms. Heyer with the KKK and the white supremacists.\u201d\t<\/p>\n
During his press conference, Trump argued: \u201cboth sides\u201d in Charlottesville were responsible for the violence.
\n\u201cYou had a group on one side who was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent, and nobody wants to say that, but I\u2019ll say it right now,\u201d Trump said before also commenting that there were \u201cvery fine people on both sides.\u201d Bro said she\u2019s \u201cnot forgiving\u201d Trump for the remarks. \u201cYou can\u2019t wash this one away by shaking my hand and saying \u2018I\u2019m sorry,\u2019\u201d Bro said. Her daughter, Heather Heyer, once posted on Facebook an anonymous quote that resonated after her violent death:

She spoke with passion to the crowd saying: Heather Heyer died fighting for what she believed in.\u201d “They tried to kill my child to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her,” Susan Bro said to loud applause. Heyer’s friends have said she joined the counter-protesters to oppose racism and injustice. Her mother pointed to the Facebook message that Heyer posted in November. “I want you to pay attention, find what’s wrong … and say to yourself, what can I do to make a difference?” Bro said. “And that’s how you’re going to make my child’s death worthwhile. “I’d rather have my child, but by golly, if I’ve got to give her up, we’re going to make it count.” “To make her life impactful, we need to move forward.” ‘She wanted equality.’ The racial diversity of those in the auditorium reflected Heather’s embrace of people of all colors. “It didn’t matter who you were or where you were from,” Mark Heyer said. “If she loved you, that was it — you were stuck. For that, I’m truly proud of my daughter.”
