Well if the laws of karma are working properly, which they usually do in some form or another, I would say this is the writing on the wall that Harvey Weinstein<\/strong>\u2019s producing career is pretty much over. The first film released by The Weinstein Company following reports of sexual harassment and rape claims against founder Harvey Weinstein was a box office failure. His company released Amityville: The Awakening<\/em> and so far, this film has made the record this year for the lowest grossing movie to be released with just $742 profit. I doubt that would even cover one lunch Weinstein used to have.<\/p>\n Amityville: The Awakening<\/em>, starring Bella Thorne<\/strong>, Jennifer Jason Leigh<\/strong> and Cameron Monaghan<\/strong> opened domestically in 10 theaters Saturday, according to Box Office Mojo. The film, distributed by TWC\u2019s Dimension Films, had gone through a rocky release even beyond the Weinstein scandal. According to Variety<\/em>, it was supposed to premiere multiple times since last year before the movie was made available for free on Google Play Oct. 12, with a one-day theatrical release on Oct. 28. <\/p>\n Weinstein’s scandal wasn’t the only factor impacting such low numbers but definitely was the last nail in the coffin. Not only was it shelved for two years, there was essentially no marketing put into the film’s release and the stars did no press to promote it.
